Think pink

BcancercookbkOver at my personal blog, "A Mama's Rant" I'm featuring ways to shop for charity. In my family, September is the start of the mega gift buying season, due to several family member's birthdays (mine included) and Christmas.

I love cookbooks, especially PINK cookbooks. How I wish someone would buy me Home and Gardens "New Cook Book, Limited Edition "Pink Plaid" for Breast Cancer Awareness (though I may just end up buying a copy for both me and my sister for Christmas).

This is the complete 12th edition New Cook Book with all the goodness and reliability that's made the Red Plaid a trusted kitchen resource for millions of families. It has more than 1,200 delicious recipes and 700 full-color photos, and hundreds of hints and tips, easy-to-read cooking charts, complete nutrition and exchange information for every recipe, plus all of the "best-loved" recipes found in the Red Plaid version.

All new 64-page "pink" section includes healthful dietary and lifestyle suggestions, and more than 60 delicious recipes containing wholesome "super foods" associated with a reduced risk of cancer.

You can buy this at Amazon.com for $19.77 or through the Susan G. Koman Breat Cancer Foundation for $25. I'm not sure how much of the proceeds go to breast cancer research when you buy the books, let alone buying at Amazon.com vs. Koman. Either way you're donating to a good cause.

Wishful Thinking - Le Creuset Casseroles

All I want for Christmas is a Cherry Red Le Creuset 2-Quart Heart Casserole.

Or a Le Creuset 2-1/4-Quart Pumpkin Casserole.

I love Le Crueset Dutch ovens (or as they call them, French ovens) and casseroles. The whimsical casseroles come in various shapes and colors - Purple Eggplant, Chili Red Tomato, Garlic, Jade Bellpepper, Fruit Green Apple, and Red Apple. They range in price from $69.99 to $119.99 on Amazon.com.

Yes, they're a little pricey, but they are practical and extremely durable. Did you know they have a 101-year warranty?

If I could, I'd throw away most of my pots and restock with Le Crueset. Hear that Santa?
