STRENGTHEN THE GOOD
I came across this wonderful blogsite, Strengthen the Good. Its motto is, "Using the power of weblogs for open-source charity. Don't just fight evil: Strengthen the good." The blogsite was recently mentioned in the New York Times.
It's about time that a blog is trying to "play it forward" and use blogging to do good instead of complaining about stuff. (Hey, wait a minute, that's what I do. Whoops.)
Seriously though, here's the plan:
Create a network of bloggers who raise awareness of “micro charities”—charitable opportunities that are simple, personal, non-bureaucratic, and inspiring. Charitable opportunities where someone can feel great about giving $1, or even just from reading the story of the charity, it’s sponsors, and it’s beneficiaries.
Every third Sunday night at Strengthen The Good blog creator Alan posts about a micro-charity with enough detail that people can qualify the charity and feel good (or even inspired) by what the charity stands for and who it benefits. He doesn't ask for donations; the mission is only to raise awareness.
All Alan asks is that you join the network and every third Monday link to that month’s charity post. To help us all remember, he emails a reminder and permalink to the network on Sunday night. To join the network and use your blog the strengthen the good, click here.
I've joined and I hope you do the same.
